Meet Our Board

All of our Board Members are Volunteers and they are each dedicated to Raising Childhood Cancer Awareness as well as ensuring the AshleyCan Pediatric Cancer Foundation can continue to donate to research and assist families.

Maureen Hensley Montgomery

Born and raised in Chicago where her father served as a Chicago Police officer for 40 years. She has resided in Bourbonnais for the last 20 years with her husband Mike and their three children Ashley, Michael and Jake. Maureen has her Associates Degree in Business with a specialization in Accounting and Marketing/Management.


She has volunteered for many organizations through the years. As a child she was a volunteer for Sertoma, an organization dedicated to serving the mentally challenged and disabled.  She was a volunteer religious education teacher for 5 years, served as a parent volunteer for the Bourbonnais school district for many years, a volunteer for Bradley Bourbonnais Youth Softball league for 8 years where she served on the Board for 3 years and was a volunteer for the Kankakee Girl’s Summer Softball league for 4 years. Her and her family volunteer and speak at many St. Jude events throughout the year.


Maureen strongly believes in a quote of actor and founder of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Danny Thomas, “Success has nothing to do with what you gain in life or accomplish for yourself. It's what you do for others.”


Maureen enjoys writing, running, traveling, and spending time with her family as well as her friends.

Founder/President/Race Director

Ashley Montgomery

Born in Tinley Park, Illinois. Moved to Bourbonnais with brother and parents when she was 4 years old. She attended school here and has resided here for the past 20 years where she lives with her Mom, Dad and two Brother’s Michael and Jake.


Growing up Ashley was very active in sports and enjoyed being part of a team. She played softball from 1st grade until her senior year as well as Soccer from 2nd grade until her senior year. She played Basketball for 5 years to include three on the Bourbonnais Upper Grade Center School team.


Ashley graduated from Bradley Bourbonnais Community High School in 2010.  She attended Kankakee Community College where she obtained her Associates in Arts and is currently working on her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing at Olivet Nazarene University. She plans to work in pediatric oncology.


Ashley enjoys, watching movies, reading, listening to music, and spending time with her family and friends. She volunteers and speaks at many St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital events throughout the year.

Vice President/ Family Fun Day Coordinator/ Website Designer and Manager

Mike Montgomery Sr.

Mike is a Distribution Supervisor for Rupari Foods. He has worked in Warehouse Distribution for 30 years.


Mike was born and raised in Tinley Park Illinois. He has resided in Bourbonnais for the last 20 years with his wife Maureen and their three children Ashley, Michael and Jake. His oldest daughter Tiffany resides with her husband in Tinley Park.  


Mike has volunteered as a softball coach for many years. He served as a coach at Bradley Bourbonnais Youth Softball League for 8 years and for the Kankakee Girl’s Summer Softball League for 4 years. He volunteers and speaks at many St. Jude events throughout the year.

Mike is a sports fan of the Chicago White Sox, Bears, Blackhawks and Bulls. He also enjoys NASCAR, NHRA, motorcycles and vintage cars. 

Vice President /Excutive Event Setup Coordinator

Mike Montgomery Jr.

Born in Chicago Ridge, Illinois, Michael moved to Bourbonnais with his sister and parents when he was 2 years old. He attended school here and has resided here for the past 20 years where he lives with his Mom, Dad, sister and brother.


Growing up Michael played soccer, basketball and baseball. Michael graduated from Bradley Bourbonnais Community High School in 2012. After high school Michael attended Kankakee Community College working towards a degree in Law Enforcement He has been working for Lens Crafter for 2 years as a Lab Technician.  


Michael enjoys playing video games, listening to music, spending time with his girlfriend Aubrey as well as his friends and family.

Event Setup Coordinator

Jessica Betterton

Born, raised, and educated in the area, Jessica and her husband, Chris, live in Bourbonnais with their two children, Zander and Abigail.  

A graduate of Olivet Nazarene University, Jessica is a certified public accountant for Smith, Koelling, Dykstra, and Ohm in Bourbonnais.  She is happy to serve as Treasurer for the AshleyCan Foundation.

Jessica believes many hands make light work and that is why she also serves on the Bradley Bourbonnais Swim Club Board, is a member of Zonta International and assists with other various community events.


Jessica is a member of the Kankakee River Running Club, has finished two marathons and many half marathons. When Jessica is not cheering for or volunteering at her children’s activities, she enjoys time at the gym, cooking for her family’s health, reading, and seeking out the perfect micro-brewed stout. 


Matt Wenzel

Born in Chicago Heights, but grew up in Crete, Park Forest, and Steger, Matt is currently a 15+ year resident of Steger, IL.  Matt is married to Donna and has one daughter, Lizzie.  He is currently employed as a Solutions Architect for a major telecommunications firm in Chicago.  Matt is also the founder of Cabin 7 Promotions which specializes in event management, coordination, and promotion, and also includes talent management and bookings. 


Matt is a member of several organizations, in addition to his role as Motorcycle Rally Coordinator and Volunteer at various running events for the AshleyCan Pediatric Cancer Foundation.  Some of these roles are, Usher at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Crete, Treasurer for the Park Forest Historical Society, Docent at the 1950s Park Forest House Museum, Secretary for the Steger Fire & Police Board of Commissioners, Talent Coordinator for the Steger Days of Music, Notary Public in Illinois, Member of the Kankakee River Running Club.  He has also served on the Dixie Highways Community Committee and the Friends of the Steger-South Chicago Heights Library.  He has been a Lead Coordinator for Steger’s Driving the Dixie, Steger Oktoberfest, and Steger Days Craft Fair in the past.


In his spare time, Matt participates in several 5Ks each year, some say he is addicted to it, and is now focusing on Trail Running and longer distances.  Over the past two decades he has also been a pit crew member and spotter for several Chicagoland local stock car teams.


Matt is a strong believer that “[People] can do all things through Christ, who gives them strength” – Philippians 4:13.
